Our Local Beer Haven

We found it!

After weeks of relying of the grocery stores to keep me out of the pricier pubs, we found a local source for real beer. At the Hogs Back, they stock over 200 different varieties of beer and ale. They also make a few award winning pints of their own.

This place is supper yummy

Ms. Marina has made her own Pizza

29/05/2007, originally uploaded by fbombsonair.

Marina made her own pizza and fell in love with the pizza man.

Landed in the UK

My timing is a bit off but I can finally say that I have landed.

We actually stepped off of the plane on the 11th but life has not been slow enough for me to write. I'm still in the process of getting settled in but I now feel like things might settle down. The pace of life here is very different than what I am used to. We have had more than one occasion where our assumptions about schedule and opening hours have left us without a meal. Things like the local banks closing at 4:30 and pubs closing the kitchen at 2:30 PM. Don't they want my money?

The beer here is warmish, smooth and plentiful. Its not anywhere near as hoppy as our American micro-brews but it gets the job done. One note worth pondering is the % by wt count. Brits seem fond of low alcohol brews (bis: 3.5 to 4.5%). I on the other hand prefer a health dose of Arrogant Bastard at a relaxing 7.2% and 100+ IBU*.

Work is fun and the weather is ever-changing. Everyone keeps blaming global warming but I think it is the work of the evil genius Kevin Costner.

We have had a few mis-adventures so far as well:
Jennifer saw her first local naked pervert, we bought and sold a lemon of a car named the Bismark and we found a house for people to go when they are old and impotent.

We miss San Diego but we are all having a great time!

Mars is gone

About 2 days after I posted last, we gave Mars to our friends. He now has a new name and a yard. On the bright side, he is still an awesome dog and I can see him occasionally.

Mars the Dog

The entire week has been dominated by my new dog Mars. He is a Swiss Mountain Dog - mix. I really can't see the mix.

We picked him up at Helen Woodward Animal Shelter on an impulsive trip last Saturday. Jen wanted to have a dog and has been looking for 3-4 months. I never really wanted one. The prospect of picking up animal drops for 12-16 years doesn't normally appeal to me. But, last Saturday I lost my mind. So now we have him. He is cute, lazy, quiet, and he poos a whole lot. Wow! We spent most of the last few nights debating our choice and cleaning up after him. With every day, Jen became more certain that she really didn't want a dog and I became more attached.

My friend James visited us this week and brought some fine Whisky and chocolate from Portland's fantastic Edgefield Winery. Thank you James. He also gave me a Guitar that I play almost every night to the kids. I love the captive audience and they think I am better than Jack Johnson. I like them.

James has a blog and it seemed a great way to keep in touch with my friends. So I am here. The Blog name came from my favorite radio station: KEXP. The DJ, Kevin Cole, was making an announcement that the station would take a break while the local transmitter was upgraded. But since the FCC didn't regulate the Internet broadcast he promised some swears. Personally, I was hoping for an F-Bomb.
